Valentine's Day in realistic mode: menu, coffee… and “come on, it's getting cold”

Valentine's Day has a reputation for being that day when, if there's no candlelit dinner, XXL bouquet, and a reservation made three weeks ago, it seems like it doesn't count. But let's be serious: real life isn't like that. Real life is about WhatsApps at 12:47 that say:

— “Shall we eat?”
— “Where?”
— “No idea.”
— “Whatever's available.”

And that's where true modern romanticism is born: solving the “where shall we eat?” in less than a minute without getting into an eternal loop.

The real Valentine's Day (the one that actually happens)

Valentine's Day is not always a movie-like dinner. Sometimes it's:

  • A quick coffee between classes, or between meetings.

  • A “by chance” meal that you had actually been trying to fit in for two weeks.

  • An impromptu “come over” because you ran into each other and a miracle happened: you have the same free slot at the same time.

  • A simple plan that ends up being the best: sitting down, eating, and talking without looking at the clock every 30 seconds (or at least trying).

And yes, it's also friendship. It's also colleagues. It's also that person you laugh with even if you're both exhausted.

The universal drama: choosing a place

The scene repeats every day on campuses, in offices, and in neighborhoods:

  1. “What do you fancy?”

  2. “Whatever.”

  3. “Yeah, but… what's there?”

  4. “I don't know.”

  5. “Well, you look.”

  6. “You look.”

  7. Silence.

  8. You lose your appetite. Or worse: you end up at the usual place.

Valentine's Day isn't going to fix the world… but at least today we can fix this: that the menu isn't a problem, but the pretext.

Anti-stress plan: view the menu, choose, and done

Here's the trick: if you know what's available, you decide better.
And if you decide better, the plan works itself out.

Less “let's walk around and see what we find”.

Less “not here… not here either…”.

Less “what if we order something?” when it's already late and everything is jammed.

And more: “I've got it: place, menu, and time”.

Because the appeal of Valentine's Day (the real one) isn't showing off. It's ease. It's saying:
“come over, it's already decided”.

For couples, for friends… and for self-love

If you celebrate it as a couple: great.
If you celebrate it with friends: even better.
If today you're alone: that counts too. Because there's a very dignified way to love yourself, which is eating well and not just surviving on anything.

Valentine's Day, 2026 version-->less epic, more life. Less hassle, more time together.

(And then: coffee, a walk, after-dinner conversation… or each to their own, but with a happy stomach.)
